Clang! The brass bell rang over the busy bazaar. Ravi ran past the spice stalls, zigzagging between baskets of red pepper and yellow saffron. In his arms he held a small clay pot of golden lamp-oil. It had to reach the old Watch Tower before sunset.
Halfway there, the wind began to roar. A storm of sand swallowed the streets. It stung Ravi's cheeks like hot pepper. He held the pot tighter. If the tower lamp stayed dark tonight, Uncle Dev and his camels would never find the way home across the dunes.
